Isn’t it annoying when somebody looks at your phone as soon as you receive any messages? But you can’t always put your phone away, right? So, how do we avoid these situations? You can use the Secret Texting App; in this article, I will cover the best Secret Texting Apps for Android, following up on my previous article for iOS.
I will keep it brief by explaining only the Secret Messaging Feature with respect to each app. Choose the app that suits your needs.
1. NewsTalk
This app doesn’t look like a messaging app but is designed as a News App. All your message notifications are in the form of news alerts, meaning nobody can guess you are receiving a message. Also, the chat window within this app is password-protected. If you’re interested, know more here.
2. Signal Private Messenger
In this app you can chat secretly using ‘Disappearing Messages’, meaning you can set a timer after which the messages will disappear. You can set any timeframe ranging from 1 second to 4 weeks. In normal chats, you have to manually delete messages.
To use this feature, open the particular chat > Tap on the contact’s name > Scroll down and tap ‘Disappearing Messages’> Set the timeframe.
3. Telegram
Telegram has a dedicated ‘Secret Chat’ feature, which is end-to-end encrypted, has self-destructing messages, and device-specific. This means if you start a secret chat with a friend on one device, it will only be accessible on that same device.
To access this feature, open the particular chat of the person > Tap on the contact’s name > Tap on three dots > Start Secret Chat.
4. CoverMe
The CoverMe app provides ‘Secure Messaging’ and ‘Disappearing Messages’ for privacy. The disappearing messages feature lets users set a timer after which messages will be deleted. To access this feature, open the respective chat > settings > Disappearing messages.
5. WhatsApp
There are several options in WhatsApp to chat secretly. You can use disappearing messages, archive chat, lock chat, a secret code, or a biometric lock to access your WhatsApp. To use Lock Chat, open the chat and tap on the contact’s name > Lock Chat > Set up Biometric. To know about other features read How to Hide WhatsApp Chat.
6.Viber
You can chat secretly in Viber using disappearing messages and the Secret chat feature. Once you set a timer for disappearing messages, your messages will deleted after a set period. The secret chat feature is used on time frames; say you have selected 1 hour, and post that all the messages will be deleted.
To enable disappearing messages, open the respective chat > tap on clock like icon at the bottom of the chat screen > set the time frame.
To enable secret chat, open the respective chat > click on three dots at the top right of the chat screen > open secret chat > set the time frame.
Things to Consider While Choosing a Secret Messaging App
- Look for apps that provide end-to-end encryption, which means only the sender and receiver can access the messages. No third party, including the app, can access them.
- See if the app provides Disappearing Messages, allowing you to set a timer, after which messages are automatically deleted.
- Look for privacy features such as hide chats, biometric lock, chat lock, secret chat, screenshot protection etc.
- Some apps do not require personal information such as name, email, or phone number to sign up; consider using such apps.
- Check where the app stores your messages. Apps with local storage keep chats on your device only, whereas cloud-based apps store data on external servers, which could be less secure.
Conclusion
Each of these secret texting apps offers unique features to help protect your privacy. Whether it’s lock chats, disappearing messages, or a particular secret chat feature, these secret texting apps for Android help you to communicate securely without leaving any trace.
