4.(4) This Act may be ~illed)the Orissa Forest Short title.

(2) It extends to the wh6le of the State ofment

(3) It shall come into force at once.
- Tn this Act, unless the context otherwise
requires-
(a) ” cattle ” means cows, oxen, bulls, and
calves and incIudes eIephants, csrnels,
buffaloes, horses, mares, geldings, ponies,
co!ts, fillies, mules, nsses, pigs, rams, en7es,
sheep, -lamb?, goats, krds and such
other kind df -animals as the State
Government may;:by not%cation, specify;
j(b) “,Gbief Conservator ,nF Forests ” means
the Forest Officer in charge of all the
forests in the Statc who supervises and
col~trolsthe work of other Forest Oficers;
.Conservator of Farests “means a Forest
Officer in charge of a:Forest Circle;

(d) ” Divisional -Forest .Offcer ” means any
Forest Officer in :cIl~rgeof any Polvest
Division;

(e) “forest offence “means an oRence punish-
able under this Act or under the rules
and includes the abetment of a forest
offence;
If)” forest officer “means any person appoin-
ted by the State Government or by any
officer empowered by them in this behalf-
(i) to be a Chief Conservator of Forests,
Conservator of Forests, Deputy
Conservator of Forests, Assistant
Conservator of Forests, Forest Ranger,
Deputy Ranger, Forester or Forest
Guard ;and
(ii) such other persons who are notified
by the State Government to perform
any function of a Forest OBcer
under this Act or any rule or order
made thereunder but does not include
a Forest SettIernent Officer ;
{g) ” forest produce “includes-
(i) the following whether found in, or
brought from a forest or not, that is
to say-
(cr) timber, charcoal, caoutchoucr
catechu, wood-oiI, resin, natural
varnish, bark, Tussar Cocoon, lac,
gums, roots of Patal Garuda, mohua
flowers, mohua seeds, myrabolans,
kendu leaves, sandalwood, tamarind,
hill-broom, siali leaves, sial fibres,
sal seeds;
(6)wild animals and wild birds,
skins, tusks,horns, bones and all
other parts or produce of wild life;
and
(c) such other produce as may be
notified by the State Government;
and
(ii) the following when found in or
brought from a forest, that is to say-
(@)trees and leaves, flowers and fruits
and all other parts or produce of
trees not hereinbeforc mentioned;
